Board Meetings May Be Held Via Fully Electronic Methods
During the 2021 Special Session I of the General Assembly, the legislature passed a new law to allow for meetings conducted by electronic means—both association board and member/owner meetings—and removed language that required at least two board members to be physically present for video or telephone conferences.
- § 55.1-1832 Property Owners' Association (POA) Act amendments
- § 55.1-1935 Condominium Act amendments
The legislature also approved language amendments proposed by Governor Northam to the budget bills to address difficulties associations faced when trying to hold board meetings during a declared State of Emergency. NOTE: The COVID-19 emergency declaration expired on June 30, 2021.
