Esthetics Apprenticeship Standards

Esthetics Apprenticeship Standards

In 2017, the Virginia Board for Barbers and Cosmetology revised its Esthetics Regulations to allow for apprenticeships in esthetics and master esthetics. Completion of an apprenticeship program offers a training alternative to traditional esthetics schools.

After soliciting input from the esthetics community, the Board drafted standards to govern these programs, which are administered by the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry's Division of Registered Apprenticeship. Each apprenticeship program consists of 2,000 on-the-job work hours and the appropriate Related Technical Instruction relevant to both levels.
