Accessibility
The Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation wants everyone to be able to access our digital content and services. As part of that commitment, we continually evaluate and improve our website so everyone can access the information they need.
Ongoing Accessibility Efforts
We work every day to keep our website accessible to all users. Our team proactively monitors and tests for potential barriers and quickly addresses concerns that are brought to our attention.
We follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, widely recognized as the industry standard for creating usable digital content. We review every page, feature and piece of content to maintain WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards.
Tips for Using Our Website
Screen Readers
Screen readers help people navigate websites without using a mouse or viewing the screen. They turn text into speech or Braille output and work with keyboard commands. Our website supports a variety of screen readers, including Narrator, VoiceOver, TalkBack, NVDA, and JAWS.
A Note on PDFs: For the best experience, download PDFs and open them in Acrobat Reader. They are tagged and structured to work with screen‑reading technology when opened in Acrobat. We don’t recommend filling out PDFs in web browsers.
Using Zoom
- Windows: Press the Windows key and plus sign or open the Magnifier app.
- Mac: Go to System Preferences > Universal Access > Seeing > Zoom.
- iPhone/iPad: Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Zoom and toggle it on.
Changing Colors and Fonts
- Microsoft Edge: Go to Settings > Accessibility > Page Colors.
- Mozilla Firefox: Go to Settings > Fonts.
- Google Chrome: Go to Settings > Appearance > Font Size/Page Zoom.
- Safari: Go to Preferences > Appearance.
