Real Estate Board: Post-License Education
Post-License Education (PLE) Curriculum
Effective as of January 1, 2019:
Section 54.1-2105.01 of the Code of Virginia requires all active new salesperson licensees to complete a Board-approved 30-hour post-license education (PLE) curriculum within one year from the last day of the month in which the license was issued in order to remain on active status.

Flood Instruction Continuing Education Requirement
IMPORTANT NOTICE for Real Estate Brokers and Experienced Salespersons
The 2015 Virginia General Assembly approved HB 2295 to require certain active real estate licensees complete continuing education in “flood hazard areas and the National Flood Insurance Program” (Flood Instruction) as a condition for license renewal.
Real Estate Board Continuing Education "Carryover" Process
Real Estate Licensees who have completed all of their required Continuing Education (CE) credit hours--16 for a Salesperson and 24 for a Broker--in the previous licensure term, and who have completed extra credit hours in the last six months of that same licensure period, may qualify to "carry over" extra CE credit hours and apply them to their current licensure period.

Real Estate Board: Continuing Education
For Brokers and Experienced Salespersons
Section 54.1-2105.03 of the Code of Virginia requires all brokers and salespersons (who have renewed their license at least once before) to complete Board-approved Continuing Education to renew or activate their licenses.

About the Customary & Reasonable Fee Guidance Document
The Real Estate Appraiser Board adopted a Guidance Document on February 23, 2016, about customary and reasonable compensation for fee appraisers. The Board’s law and regulation require Appraisal Management Companies (AMCs) to pay customary and reasonable compensation in compliance with the Truth in Lending Act (TILA) and its regulations.
